Security update: Edge 86.0.622.51 released

Edge[German]Microsoft has updated the Chromium-based Edge Browser to version 86.0.622.51 on Oct. 22, 2020. This is a security update which closes serious vulnerabilities.

I had already pointed out the update of the Google browser in the blog post Google Chrome 86.0.4240.111: Critical Security Update two days ago. The update of the Google Chrome browser closes a 0-day vulnerability CVE-2020-15999 in the (also in other software products like Linux) FreeType library. The vulnerability is already being exploited in attacks.

Edge 86.0.622.51

Microsoft has published a Security Advisory Notification ADV200002, which points out the critical security update for the Edge browser based on the chromium code. The browser is based on Chromium version 86.0.4240.111 and should update automatically. According to ADV200002, the browser update closes some vulnerabilities rated as high:

CVE-2020-15999 *, CVE-2020-16000, CVE-2020-16001, CVE-2020-16002, CVE-2020-16003

The release notes  from Microsoft don't really give you anything, on this page it says:

Microsoft has released the latest Microsoft Edge Stable Channel (Version 86.0.622.51), which incorporates the latest Security Updates of the Chromium project. This update contains CVE-2020-15999, that has been reported by the Chromium team as being an active exploit.

The browser can also be downloaded from this Microsoft site if required.
