[English]Another short addendum from this week on a topic that should hardly concern anyone. Microsoft has admitted that the "Backup and Restore" function known from Windows 7 for saving and restoring backups is now simply broken in Windows 10 and Windows 11. This has been the case since January 2022, when an update broke the function.

""Backup and restore" deprecated
I confess that I've used the "Backup and Restore" function years ago – under Windows 7. After all, it was an on-board tool that I could use in Windows 7, even if this backup option was a "nasty thing" and caused sometimes trouble. However, Microsoft had long ago discontinued the 'Backup and Restore' feature known from Windows 7 in Windows 10. Microsoft has published the post Windows 7 Backup and Restore deprecated in 2020. But this feature was still accessible via the Control Panel.
Feature unable to start
The colleagues from deskmodder noticed this week a support article from Microsoft that reports issues with the feature "Backup and Restore (Windows 7)" under Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft writes about this:
KB5013438: Recovery discs created by using the "Backup and Restore (Windows 7)" app in Control Panel are unable to start
After installing the Windows updates released January 11, 2022 or later Windows versions on an affected version of Windows, recovery discs (CD or DVD) created by using the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) app in Control Panel might be unable to start.
Recovery discs that were created by using the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) app on devices which have installed Windows updates released before January 11, 2022 are not affected by this issue and should start as expected.
As soon as the cumulative updates released for the various versions of Windows 10 and for Windows 11 from January 2022 have been installed, the "Backup and Restore" function can no longer be called from the Control Panel. This affects all editions of the following Windows clients:
- Windows 10 RTM
- Windows 10, version 1607
- Windows 10, version 1809
- Windows 10, version 1909
- Windows 10, version 20H2
- Windows 10, version 21H1
- Windows 10, version 21H2
- Windows 11
Microsoft plans to fix the broken backup feature in the Windows versions mentioned above – even though the function has been discontinued. When a fix will come is not communicated.
Restore disks created with "Backup and Restore (Windows 7)" on devices that have not yet installed any of the Windows updates released from 11 January 2022 are not affected by this problem and should be able to use the backup as expected.

looks like they did it on purpose to force the use of onedrive for backups, and have people pay for cloud space. No fix as of oct2023
