Chrome 101.0.4951.67, Browser Updates fails in Russia for Android users

[German]Google has released the update of Google Chrome 101.0.4951.67 for Windows and Mac on the desktop in the Stable Channel as of May 12, 2022. Furthermore, the update to version 96.0.4664.208 for Windows and Mac was released in the Long Term Support Channel. Chrome for Android has already been updated to 103.0.5055.0 in the Developer Channel on May 12, 2022. And in Russia, updates for Chrome on Android fails.

Google Chrome 101.0.4951.67

The announcement for Chrome 101.0.4951.64 can be found on the Google blog. However, there are no details what was fixed there. 

Google Chrome 96.0.4664.208 (LTSC)

Furthermore, the update to version 96.0.4664.208 for Windows and Mac was released in the Long Term Support Channel. The update fixes the following vulnerabilities:

  • 1278608 High CVE-2021-43527 Security: CA certificate import exploitable with large DSA and RSA-PSS signatures on Linux/ChromeOS
  • 1304660 High  CVE-2022-23308 CrOS: Vulnerability reported in dev-libs/libxml2

Chrome for Windows, Mac and Linux will be rolled out to the systems via the automatic update feature in the next few days. You can also update the browser manually (via the menu and the About Google Chrome command). The latest build of the Chrome browser can also be downloaded here.

Android: Chrome update fails in Russia

It seems that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is now affecting Chrome users on Android in Russia. Colleagues at Bleeping Computer report on the issue here. A growing number of Android Google Chrome users in Russia are reporting errors when trying to install the latest update for the web browser. The source is this Kommersant article. The problems started on May 9, 2022, when Chrome version 101 for Android was released. The number of complaints is increasing every day, but so far the cause of the problem is unknown and not yet solved.
