MDaemon Technologies (AltN) has become a victim of a cyber attack (Ransomware)

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Quick note for people who use AltN (MDaemon Technologies) email servers. The provider has fallen victim to a cyberattack – the systems have been infected by ransomware. At the moment, their entire business operations should be at a standstill. Here is a brief overview.

MDaemon Email Server is an email server application with groupware features for Microsoft Windows, first released in 1996 by Alt-N Technologies. This very company is now suffering from a cyberattack. Blog reader Frederick S. notified me of the incident via email (thank you). There is a Ransomware Alert on their English website (see the following screenshot).

MDaemon Technologies Ransomware Alert

There, dated October 17, 2022, it states that MDaemon Technologies was the victim of a ransomware cyberattack on Sunday, October 16, 2022. The attack impacted the company's IT systems and website. As a result, the English-language website is not operable (the German website, however, can be accessed).

The company is currently working with the authorities, assessing the impact and working to restore the affected systems. The primary goal is to minimize the impact on existing software users. However, MDaemon Technology employees have had to temporarily switch to manual operations and will communicate by phone in the U.S. until systems are back up and running.

One Response to MDaemon Technologies (AltN) has become a victim of a cyber attack (Ransomware)

  1. Yolanda Salvador says:

Sad, very sad. I use mdaemon and have 17 companies we support that use AltN Mdaemon as well. This should have never happened. AltN let their guard down meanwhile trying to lecture us about how to protect our clients against ransomware. This is a horrible look for AltN
