Firefox 108.0 and 102.6.0 esr released

Mozilla[German]The Mozilla developers have released the versions 108.0 and 102.6.0 ESR of the Firefox browser on December 13, 2022. The ESR versions are maintenance updates that are supposed to fix bugs. Firefox 108 is a new development branch. In both updates, vulnerabilities are fixed. Thanks to the reader for the tip.

Firefox 108 is a new development branch. According to the release notes, the update brings the following new features.

  • Import maps, which allow websites to control the behavior of JavaScript imports, are now enabled by default.
  • Processes used for background tabs now use efficiency mode on Windows 11 to limit resource usage.
  • The Shift+ESC key combination now opens the Process Manager and provides a way to quickly identify processes that are consuming too many resources.
  • Improved frame scheduling under load; this significantly improves Firefox's MotionMark results.

In addition, several bugs have been fixed in the new version of Firefox.

  • Firefox now supports correct color correction of images tagged with ICCv4 profiles.
  • Support for non-English characters when saving and printing PDF forms.
  • The default bookmark toolbar state "Show only on new tab" works correctly on empty new tabs. As before, you can change the behavior of the bookmarks toolbar via the toolbar context menu.

Firefox 102.6 ESR

Also the versions 102.6 with long-term support (ESR) was released and close these vulnerabilities. Firefox should update itself automatically, but can be downloaded from this website for various platforms (the variant is to be selected via the list boxes displayed).
