Parallels RAS licenses expire on April 24, 2023; reactivation required

Stop - Pixabay[German]Brief note for administrators who use Parallels RAS (Remote Application Server). If the "big bang" breaks out on April 24, 2023 because the Parallels RAS refuses to work, it's probably not your fault. It looks like the vendor "screwed up" the licenses as of April 22, 2023, so Parallels RAS will stop working on April 24, 2023. The licenses will need to be reactivated in order to use the product again.

I was made aware of the issue just a few minutes ago (April 23, 2023, 11:00 PM) via a private message on Facebook (thanks to Andy A.). Andy wrote:

there seems to be a little bang prepared tomorrow. Parallels seems to have some kind of stress with the licenses …

and sent me some information. Seems to have been initiated by a system house and is dated April 23, 2023. They seem to be a distributor of Parallels RAS (Remote Application Sever).

My reading of the communication is that the manufacturer Parallels must have made an error regarding the running licenses of its "RAS installations" on April 22, 2023. I interpret the term "RAS installations" to mean installations of Parallels' Remote Application Server. According to the conversation, the RAS installations will then cease service on April 24, 2023 (time I don't know), due to invalid licenses.

The solution to the problem, according to the text, is that all RAS installations will have to be reactivated to work again. I also understand from the communication that Parallels has unfortunately not informed its distributors and customers about this issue (I haven't found any public mention). So if your Parallels RAS installs are failing on April 24, 2023, check the license activation.

Parallels Remote Application Server (RAS)

Unless I'm completely wrong, Parallels RAS refers to application virtualization software that delivers centrally hosted Windows applications to local devices without the need to install them. Parallels RAS allows Windows applications to run on devices where they normally can't, including Macintosh computers, mobile devices and Google Chromebooks. Parallels RAS is accessed on all devices through the Parallels Client. Details can be found on the vendor's website. Licensing details can be found in this Parallels Support post.
