[German]A small addendum for administrators of Microsoft's Azure Virtual Desktop: Redmond announced last week that so-called "private links" are now generally available in Azure Virtual Desktop. This should increase the security of connections to Azure Virtual Desktop instances. This is because Private Link ensures that connections to Azure Virtual Desktop instances remain in a trusted and secure private network environment, as they are handled over a secure Microsoft network. This eliminates the need for the service in question to be accessible via the Internet.

On July 14, 2023, I came across the following tweet from Jeff Woolsey, Principal Program Manager, Azure Stack HCI/Windows Server/Hybrid Cloud at Microsoft. Woolsey announced the general availability of Private Link for Azure Virtual Desktop and referenced the blog post Announcing the General Availability of Private Link for Azure Virtual Desktop on the Azure Virtual Desktop blog.
Microsoft explains that Private Link for Azure Virtual Desktop will enable users to establish secure connections by providing private endpoints to remote resources. With Private Link, traffic between the virtual network and the Azure Virtual Desktop service is routed over the highly secure Microsoft backbone network, it said.
This eliminates the need for the service in question to be accessed via the public Internet. According to Microsoft, this should increase the overall security of the customers' respective infrastructures. Because traffic stays within this protected network, Private Link provides an additional layer of security for your Azure Virtual Desktop environment.
In this article, Microsoft has published more information about this feature and its benefits. The steps to set up Private Link for Azure Virtual Desktop can be read here.
