Firefox 120.0

Firefox 120 is a new development branch which, according to the release notes, has a number of new features.

  • Firefox supports a new function "Copy link without site tracking" in the context menu, which ensures that copied links no longer contain any tracking information.

  • Firefox now supports a setting (in Settings -> Privacy & Security) to enable global privacy control. With this opt-in feature, Firefox tells websites that the user does not want their data to be shared or sold.
  • Firefox's private windows and ETP Strict privacy configuration now add fingerprinting protection to the Canvas APIs, further protecting the online privacy of our users.
Firefox has enabled the cookie banner blocker in private windows by default for all users in Germany. Firefox now automatically rejects cookies and rejects annoying cookie banners for supported websites.
  • Firefox has activated URL tracking protection by default in private windows for all users in Germany. Firefox removes unimportant URL query parameters that are often used to track users on the web.
  • Firefox now imports TLS trust anchors (e.g. certificates) from the root store of the operating system. This is enabled by default on Windows, macOS and Android and can be disabled in the settings if required (Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Certificates).
  • Added keyboard shortcuts to edit and delete selected credentials in about:logins. To edit – Alt + Enter (Option + Return on macOS) and to delete – Alt + Backspace (Option + Delete on macOS).
  • Ubuntu Linux users now have the ability to import from Chromium when both are installed as snap packages.
  • Picture-in-Picture now supports corner snapping on Windows and Linux – just hold down the Ctrl key while moving the PiP window.

Several vulnerabilities rated as high have been closed in Firefox 120 (see here). Notes for Enterprise users can be found here. Firefox should update itself automatically, but can be downloaded from this website for various platforms (the variant can be selected via the list fields displayed).

Firefox 115.5 ESR

This is a maintenance update for Firefox. According to the release notes, the vulnerabilities described here have been fixed in Firefox 115.5 ESR.
