Google has published the blog post New performance and safety features are coming to Chrome with details. The Safety Check feature in the desktop version of the Chrome browser is intended to improve security. The function runs automatically in the background on desktop systems. Users are proactively warned,

  • if passwords stored in Chrome have been compromised,
  • if one of the extensions is potentially malicious
  • if users are not using the latest version of Chrome
  • or if website permissions require the user's attention.

These warnings are displayed in the three-dot menu in Chrome so that users can take the necessary action.

Google has also expanded the security check to revoke the authorization for websites to access the location or microphone, for example, if users have not used this option for a long time. In addition, the security check now indicates when users receive many notifications from websites they rarely visit. This makes it easy to deactivate this notification sharing.

The blog post describes more new features like the improved performance control via the memory saver mode, or the tab groups as a useful way to arrange and organize tabs in Chrome. (via)
