[German]I'll pick up on a topic that I came across in the comments here on the blog – but I don't know if it's just an isolated incident. Are there administrators who have noticed that since December 2023 print jobs that are transmitted via SMB, for example, are no longer processed? Or the clients suddenly no longer get a connection to the print server (LPD service) and an error 0x00000709 is reported when creating new connections.

December 2023 update KB5033118
On December 12, 2023, cumulative update KB5033118was released for Windows Server 2022 (see also Patchday: Windows 11/Server 2022 updates (December 12, 2023)). In the support article, Microsoft writes that there are no known problems with this update – and I didn't find anything in the update notifications either.
Are there printing issues after the update?
In the comments to the German blog post Patchday: Windows 11/Server 2022-Updates (12. Dezember 2023) , two administrators have already reported problems with print output. This may be a coincidence – and my aim here in this article is also to find out whether there are more affected users.
Clients lose connection to the print server
German blog reader Bernd D. has posted this comment to report printer issues. In his environment, a Windows Server 2022 is operated as a print server. The server was given an alias in the network so that nothing had to be changed on the network paths after a move.
Bernd reports that the print server constellation under Windows Server 2022 worked perfectly until the December 2023 update and the clients were able to print. After installing the December 2023 update, the clients lost the connection to their printers (on the print server). New connections to \\\\ALIAS\\printer name are acknowledged with an error message 0x00000709.
I had pointed out that a bug in this area has been known since December 4, 2023, which was addressed by Gizchina in the post MICROSOFT CONFIRMS A PRINTER BUG ON WINDOWS 11 & WINDOWS 10 – SEE SOME WORKAROUNDS.

LPD service does not accept print jobs
German blog reader Christian Dürst describes another error pattern under Windows Server 2023 at the end of December 2023, which also occurred in December 2023 and suspects a connection with update KB5033118. A print server under Windows Server 2022 is also running there, with the LPD service active. The print server accepts print jobs via "normal" queues via SMB. At the same time, however, the LPD service is also active in order to receive print jobs from a Linux print server (CUPS) via LPD.
Since the installation of the KB5033118 update (this is assumed, but is not yet 100% certain) there is a problem that these print jobs are no longer accepted. The CUPS print server tries to send them, but the Windows print server does not accept them. This happens even though the LPD service and the print spooler are running.
The reader has stopped and restarted the print spooler and thus also the LPD service. After that, the acceptance of print jobs worked for a while. But then the acceptance of print jobs was refused again. Restarting the entire server did not solve the problem.
Windows Server 2019 also affected
The above error description from Christian was confirmed by Patrick S. in this German comment. However, this is a Windows Server 2019, and strangely enough, only one of four print servers shows this behavior of no longer accepting print jobs.
After some troubleshooting, the reader found that no queue was found with the command "lpq -S 'serverip' -P 'queuename' ". However, as soon as the localhost IP 127.0.0.1 is used instead of the server IP, the queue can be reached.
As a workaround, the reader uses PaperCut MF and the LPD service from PaperCut in his environment and has deactivated the Windows LPD service. This was necessary so that the SAP application can reach the printer queues again.
