I have just been told that VMware by Broadcom could "soon" only accept subscriptions with terms of 3 or 5 years – but this has probably not yet been finalized. And the VMware end customer business sold by Broadcom is likely to operate under the name "Omnissa" in future.

Plans for multi-year subscriptions
I have already reported extensively on the many twists and turns regarding the new business policy at virtualization provider VMware, which will be implemented following the takeover by Broadcom (see links at the end of the article).
In the blog post Analyses: VMware acts as planned with licenses; switching to alternatives a problem I pointed out that VMware by Broadcom is proceeding in a very planned manner with regard to future licensing. On the one hand, the aim is to significantly increase revenues and, on the other, to keep the "big fish" while "throwing overboard" the many small fish, as they do not generate any revenue.
A few hours ago, a reader sent me some information that is still unconfirmed but fits the above pattern. The reader sent me the above screenshot of the plans for VMware partners for Q2 2024 and beyond. Some issues are addressed there, such as the expiry of the Advantage Partner Program Resell Partner Invitations etc. The VMware portal for end customers will also expire on April 30 (see VMware users: Attention, portal migration to Broadcom on April 30, 2024). I can't really categorize many of the key points raised in the above slide – those who are partners will be able to do more with them.
However, the reader told me: "From [the] 06.04.2024 everything will be new again at Broadcom/VMware, there are rumors (not yet 100% confirmed) that there will only be 3 and 5 year subscriptions in the future and that the one-year subscriptions will also be completely eliminated. Further information attached – perhaps interesting…" I'll just leave it at that, the partners and customers will find out what Broadcom thinks is "best for them".

Omnissa as the name for VMware end customer products?
I reported in the blog post Private equity firm KKR buys VMware end customer business for 4 billion dollars that the end customer business (EUC) including the VMware product portfolio had been sold. At VMware, EUC includes services such as Remote Access, Virtual Desktop and Mobile Device Management. Carbon Black was also mentioned. The private equity firm KKR announced the purchase of VMware's End User Computing (EUC) business at the end of February 2024 for a price of 4 billion dollars.
Now I read from the colleagues at The Register that VMware's end-user compute products will probably be renamed Omnissa after the sale. The Register writes that VMware has tried to register a trademark for "Omnissa". The business purpose is stated as follows:
Downloadable computer software to deliver end user computing to personal computers, tablet computers, and mobile devices, namely delivering a remote working experience to members of an organization.
Goods and Services
Computer services for delivering end user computing to personal computers, tablet computers, and mobile devices, namely delivering a remote working experience to individual members of an organization.
So something about "computing services for the provision of end-user computing for personal computers, tablet computers and mobile devices, especially for the provision of a remote work experience for individual members of an organization".
Now the name Omnissa appears in a VMware Knowledge Base article published on April 11, indicating that users of the products will be able to access support services at customerconnect.omnissa.com starting May 6. Let's see what develops there.
