Discontinuation in June 2024
Microsoft had discontinued the previously available function for driver synchronization via update via Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) in June 2024. The relevant information was published on 28 June 2024 in the Techcommunity article Deprecation of WSUS driver synchronization. I reported on this at the time in the blog post Microsoft stops driver synchronization in WSUS in April 2025.
Microsoft reminds of the discontinuation
On January 24, 2025, the 90-day reminder: Deprecation of WSUS driver synchronization was published in the Windows Release Health Message Center – the colleagues from Bleeping Computer have reminded us of this below.
Microsoft reminds us in its post that "things will get serious" in 90 days. Administrators who use driver synchronization updates via Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) must prepare for the Exist.
The service for providing driver synchronization updates is expected to be decommissioned on April 18, 2025. According to Microsoft, the drivers will still be available for download in the Microsoft Update Catalog for local contexts. However, administrators will not be able to import these update packages into WSUS.

Anyone wishing to update drivers must use one of the alternative solutions mentioned by Microsoft. Microsoft explicitly mentions the possibility of using Device Driver Packages. However, reference is also made to cloud-based driver services that companies could switch to. This refers to services such as Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopatch. More information on this was published on June 28, 2024 in the Techcommunity article Deprecation of WSUS driver synchronization.
