[German]Just a quick question to ask if people have run into problems with the D3D9 DLL under Windows 11, or if forced updates of Nvidia drivers have been observed? I've come across a few reports and articles that I can't really classify at the moment. The question is whether there are anyone affected.

A brief patchday note from a reader
I would have ignored this German comment from Jackie on the article Patchday: Windows Server-Updates (11. März 2025) if I hadn't come across the following information almost at the same time.
Older NVIDIA drivers forcibly installed
Jackie writes that an older NVIDIA driver was installed on several systems during the patchday, although a newer one is already installed. They were all self-built systems and not OEM systems.
Another user confirmed that he had noticed this before with HP workstations with Nvidia cards under Windows 10, but that he was able to deselect these driver updates. According to Jackie, this was not the case with the March 2025 patchday, the drivers were forcibly updated to an older version.t der Fall, die Treiber seien zwangsweise auf eine ältere Version aktualisiert worden.
Problems with the update service
Since the upgrade to Windows 11 24H2, Jackie says she has had the problem that the Windows Update service hangs at some point and can no longer be terminated via the MMC on systems "that run for a longer period of time". It then can no longer find any updates.
She can kill the process via the task manager (activate the command line column in the task manager). But that doesn't help either, because the service doesn't work again after a restart. Another problem is that the computer cannot be restarted or shut down because of the failed, hanging service – only a reset or hard shutdown will help.

However, this may be an isolated case and does not necessarily have anything to do with the NVIDIA driver updates.
Windows 11: Problems with NVidia confirmed
As of March 12, 2025, I noticed this post from neowin.net stating that Microsoft confirms that a major D3D9 bug is preventing applications from launching on Windows 11. It is suspected that Nvidia software could be to blame for this problem.
However, the bug relates to the Insider Previews (latest Windows 11 Canary Channel builds), where there are probably problems with Nvidia graphics processors due to a conflict with DirectX 9. There are crashes due to a D3D9 DLL.
Microsoft writes in the blog post Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27808 (Canary Channel) that they are investigating a d3d9.dll crash that causes several applications to fail to launch for some Insiders as of build 27802.
Microsoft has not blamed Nvidia for these problems. However, according to neowin.net, comments from users experiencing the problems indicate that Nvidia could be involved. Whether there is a connection to the above problem is of course an open question. However, a search on the Internet reveals that for years there have been reports of problems with Nvidia drivers for graphics or DirectX.
