[German]Microsoft has set an upgrade block for Windows 11 24H2 on systems where SenseShield Technology is installed. There is a problem with the compatibility between Windows 11 24H2 and the sprotect.sys driver. The Microsoft developers are investigating this with the manufacturer.
Windows 11 24H2 and SenseShield Technology
Microsoft has published the article Devices with apps using sprotect.sys driver might stop responding in the Known Issues of the Windows 11 24H2 Release Health Dashboard on April 4, 2025. It states that there is a compatibility issue with SenseShield Technology Co and its sprotect.sys driver under Windows 11 version 24H2.
This problem causes affected devices to stop responding and display a blue or black screen error. The sprotect.sys driver provides encryption protection and is used by specialized security software and enterprise solutions. This driver can be automatically introduced into a system as part of the installation process of many different applications. The issue affects devices with any version of the sprotect.sys driver (1.0.2.372 and 1.0.3.48903).
Analysis and upgrade blocker
Microsoft is working with SenseShield Technology Co to resolve the compatibility issue between Windows 11 version 24H2 and the sprotect.sys driver. To prevent problems after upgrading to Windows 11 version 24H2, Microsoft has set an upgrade block for feature updates to this version.
Devices with an installed but incompatible sprotect.sys driver will not be offered the installation of Windows 11, version 24H2, via the Windows Update release channel. For Windows 11 Home or Windows 11 Pro users on devices affected by this block, the Windows Update page under Settings will display a message stating that no action needs to be taken. IT administrators using Windows Update for Business reports can check for this issue using the Safeguard ID 56318982.
Microsoft advises against attempting to manually update to Windows 11, version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Wizard or the Media Creation Tool until this issue is resolved.
