[German]The developers of Kali Linux have frozen their repository for a few days, meaning that updates to the operating system may fail. The reason for this is a lost repository key for signing the files.

The developers of the Kali project published the support article A New Kali Linux Archive Signing Key on Monday, April 28, 2025. They write that there is bad news for Kali Linux users. In the coming days, apt update will fail for pretty much every user of the operating system with the following message:
Missing key 827C8569F2518CC677FECA1AED65462EC8D5E4C5, which is needed to verify signature.
The reason for this is that the developers had to create a new signing key for the Kali repository. Affected Kali users have to download and install the new key manually:
sudo wget https://archive.kali.org/archive-keyring.gpg -O /usr/share/keyrings/kali-archive-keyring.gpg
After that, Kali-Linux is set up again for the provision of updates. More details can be found in the linked article. (via)
