FSAS Technologies suspends VMware partnership from June 2025

VMware[German]Following VMware by Broadcom's harsh treatment of customers and partners, FSAS Technologies (Fujitsu) is now suspending the VMware partnership from June 2025 onwards.

FSAS Technologies, it's Fujitsu

When German blog reader Jens sent me the information, the name FSAS Technologies meant nothing to me. It is a subsidiary of the Fujitsu Group. Fsas Technologies is a company that focuses on data center solutions and infrastructure services. The company takes a channel-based sales approach, meaning it works with distributors and other organizations to sell its products and services.

Announcing changes to the VMware portfolio

Jens contacted me by mail and sent me an "Important announcement" from FSAS Technologies about the portfolio dated May 21, 2025 (thanks for that). In the message FSAS Technologies announces an important change in the partnership with VMware by Broadcom.

Due to recent developments, Fsas Technologies is suspending all activities as a VMware "Value Added OEM" (VAO) as of June 11, 2025. This affects the PRIMEFLEX for VMware offerings as well as the VMware OEM license business.

What does this mean for customers?

The PRIMERGY servers and ETERNUS storage systems from FSAS are still certified for VMware solutions and are ready for use in VMware environments. Existing contracts with VMware support by Fsas Technologies (PRS / PS) are not affected by this change.

VMware support by Fsas Technologies for new PRIMERGY projects is no longer possible from June 11, 2025. Resell licenses and corresponding support are still available through distribution. Customers must note that orders for all VMware VAO subscriptions must be placed by May 30, 2025 at the latest.

They are focus on alternatives

Fsas Technologies sees itself as a trustworthy partner and consultant, according to the information I have received. The provider now wants to focus even more on supporting virtualization solutions that benefit customers in a fair and sustainable way.

In a German white paper Fsas Technoligies wrote, that recent major acquisitions, such as the acquisition of VMware by Broadcom and the subsequent sale of VMware's End-User Computing division to the private equity firm Omnissa, as well as the acquisition of Citrix by Cloud Software Group/Omnissa, have redefined the competitive landscape.

In addition to these acquisitions, we are currently experiencing a remarkable increase in new strategic partnerships. Nutanix, for example, has entered into partnerships with RedHat in the area of containers, with Citrix in the area of VDI and with Cisco in the area of HCI following the discontinuation of their hyperconverged Hyperflex solution.
In the midst of all these changes, alternative providers with new virtualization solutions based on open source technology such as PROXMOX, Vates, Virtuozzo or Scale Computing are also gaining in importance.

There are also noticeable changes in the market from a portfolio strategy perspective. Leading companies such as VMware, Citrix, Nutanix and Microsoft are increasingly focusing their portfolios on containerization, cloud and edge computing. This change also includes the transition to subscription-based license models and the increased bundling of individual software products in larger packages in order to offer customers additional added value.

However, it should be noted that such approaches can often lead to significant price increases, especially if customers receive products in a package that are not necessary for their specific use cases.
