Adobe Reader version 25.001.20744 with PDF printing problem on Windows

Stop - Pixabay[German]On September 24, 2025, Adobe released an update for its Reader to version 25.001.20744. In recent days, I have received reports from readers who are experiencing printing problems under Windows. Adobe Reader 25.001.20744 can no longer print PDF documents cleanly on the printer and squeezes the entire document into the top left corner of the page. The bug is supposed to be fixed in version 2025.001.20756.

Adobe Reader 25.001.20744

I took a quick look—according to post 25.001.20744 Planned update, Sep 24, 2025, the version in question was scheduled for release on September 24, 2025. This version offers various new features for end users, which are described in this overview.

First reader report of printing problems

German blog reader Klaus B. had already contacted me by email on September 29, 2025 (thanks for that) and asked if I knew anything about printing problems with Adobe Acrobat Reader 25.001.20744 (I had to say no).

After upgrading to the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader 25.001.20744 on Windows on September 27, 2025, PDF files in his environment are no longer printing completely on two independent HP printers, a LaserJet 277 and an HP LaserJet 281 (both with LAN and WLAN connections).

The blog reader stated that only the "top sixth of the page" of PDF documents appeared on the printout. The reader also wrote that the "Print as an image" function was no longer available when printing.

The reader also noted that all other files, such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel documents, and PNG graphics, could be printed without any problems. This rules out the printer as the source of the problem.

As a workaround, he used a screenshot program (Greenshot) to take a screenshot of the PDF pages and then prints this photo. This works as expected. The reader wrote: "In my opinion, there seems to be a major problem with the (HP) printer drivers and the latest Acrobat Reader update." In his environment, he uses Adobe Reader on Windows 10 22H2.

Another reader report

German blog reader Eva S., who works in IT support, then reported the issue on October 1, 2025, via email (thank you for that). She also reported that the Adobe Reader version mentioned above currently has a problem where printouts are undefined and parts of the page are missing from the printout. She stated that the rollout of the Adobe Reader version mentioned above was on September 27, 2025.

Discussions in the Adobe community, etc.

A quick search revealed that this printing problem is now being discussed extensively on the Internet and in the Adobe community. In the Adobe forum, there is a thread titled Recent Update 2025.001.20744 Breaks Printing from Acrobat Reader in Windows 11, where the problem is discussed in relation to Windows 11. There, however, those affected can select the "Print As Image" option in the advanced printing options to be able to print the PDF document. Rolling back to Reader 2025.001.20693 fixes the problem. In this thread, someone writes that they cannot observe the printing problem under Windows 10. Others state that the problem occurs under Windows 10 (various versions) and Windows 11 (various versions).

Solving the issue

Blog reader Eva S. wrote: "Only a rollback to version 25.001.20693 fixes the problem." When I suggested that there might be a workaround, she added: "Yes, the workaround would be to print the file as an image."

In this Adobe community post, several users also describe the printing problem for version 2025.001.20744 on Windows. PDF printing in Edge, on the other hand, works. However, someone states on October 1, 2025, that the printing problem has been solved with version 2025.001.20756.

German blog reader (see above) responded to the post here and wrote, "There are no longer any problems with the HP MFP 277. However, the HP MFP 281 still only prints using the 'Print as image' function." He has informed Adobe Customer Care and is waiting for the next update.
