[German]A quick reminder for administrators responsible for SharePoint Online. Microsoft will retire Azure ACS for SharePoint Online on April 2, 2026.
Microsoft announced this on October 2, 2025, in the Microsoft 365 Message Center in post MC693863 – Azure ACS retirement in Microsoft 365.
Essentially, new tenants have not been able to use Azure ACS since 2024.
Since SharePoint first started using Azure Access Control Services (ACS) in 2013, Microsoft has continued to develop authorization and authentication options for SharePoint Online via Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD). New tenants have not been able to use Azure ACS since November 1, 2024.
Companies must migrate custom apps for secure authentication to Microsoft Entra ID and use the Microsoft 365 Assessment Tool to determine their use of Azure ACS. This is because in six months, on April 2, 2026, Microsoft will discontinue Azure ACS as an authentication platform for SharePoint Online.
According to Microsoft, using Microsoft Entra ID as the authentication platform for SharePoint Online customizations offers applications the most secure, compliant, and future-proof model.
