[German]A few days ago, I reported that Mozilla Firefox 115 ESR would be discontinued on Windows 7/8.1. Now, Firefox 115.33.0 ESR has been released as the last update for these operating systems. Mozilla has also released Firefox 148.0 with AI Killswitch. And there is an update to Firefox 140.8 ESR.
Firefox 148.0 with AI kill switch
The Firefox 148.0 browser, released on February 24, 2026, is a completely new development branch that, according to the release notes, features the long-awaited AI killswitch. This new browser version has a new section for AI controls in the desktop version's settings.
Users can block current and future generative AI features in Firefox in one place. It is possible to review and manage individual AI features so that users can decide how they want to use them. Users can use Firefox without AI, while the Mozilla team will continue to develop AI features for those who want them.

Users can block current and future generative AI features in Firefox in one place. It is possible to review and manage individual AI features so that users can decide how they want to use them. I pointed out the details some time ago in the blog post Firefox 148 soll einen "KI-Killswitch" bekommen (use the blog's translation to read the text in English).
Firefox now offers improved support for screen readers that access mathematical formulas embedded in PDF files.
Remote enhancements are now decoupled from telemetry requirements in Firefox settings. Users can now receive remote browser changes even if they have opted out of sharing telemetry data or participating in experimental Mozilla studies.
Firefox Backup is now available on Windows 10 for users who also use the "Clear history when Firefox closes" feature. Backups do not include data that is supposed to be deleted when Firefox closes.
In addition, more Asian languages have been made available for translations. New tab background images are now displayed on both new container tabs and new standard tabs.
A problem has been fixed that could cause a language pack to be disabled after a major update, causing Firefox to display in the wrong language.
On Windows, dragging a downloaded image into Adobe Illustrator now inserts the image correctly and no longer inserts its URL. In addition, the security fixes described on this page have been delivered.

Now, the Mozilla developers have released Firefox 115.33.0 ESR. According to the release notes, only security fixes have been made. This version will be the last update of Firefox 115 for Windows 7/8.1.
