[German]Brief information for administrators and IT supporters. There have "recently" been an update of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, which interferes with the ODBC driver. This affects several software, like German DATEV applications and the SFirm financial software of the savings banks. Several blog readers have informed me independently of each other and I have put the information together in one post.
A reader's note about the problem
As early as May 13, 2025, a blog reader contacted me by e-mail and noted that there may already have been inquiries or reports regarding a problem (has been left behind due to Patchday).
The reader wrote that there seems to be an incompatibility between the latest version of Microsoft's Visual C++ Redistributable (vcredist.exe) and the ODBC driver for MS SQL Server. As a result, programs such as German SFirm, Datev-Zahlungsverkehr, Lexware and potentially many other software packages do not work properly.
When accessing databases, the error "Invalid date format" or "invalid date format" occurs, depending on the ODBC driver version. The Visual C++ Redistributable as 14.42.34438.0 is not compatible with the ODBC driver in Windows. As a result, DATEV-Zahlungsverkehr and SFirm (and according to other reports e.g. Lexware or any other software that establishes ODBC connections) could not communicate correctly with the database.
Another reader wrote: "Specifically, it's about the update to the current version of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio (14.44.35112). Since this update, we have observed reproducible errors in two applications, both of which refer to the date format.
The reader used a quick an dirty workaround. He exchanged the following files under:
C:\Windows\System32\mfc140*.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mfc140*.dll
with older versions (in his case version 14.42.34438.0 from Jan. 18 2025).
