Some users of HP ink jet printers are facing problems with third party refill ink cartridges after September 13, 2016. This is a result of a firmware update for several HP printers.

The issue raised up in HP's support forum here. An HP expert confirmed here, the a new firmware for HP Officejet Pro 8610, 8615, 8620, 8625, 8630 is causing this issue. The site inkjet411.com has the details. HP's experts recommends to return refill ink cartridges to third party vendors.
The nasty details
HP released a new printer firmware version on March 12th 2016. And this printer firmware axes support for third party refill ink cartridges from September 2016 onward on the following printers so far:
- HP Officejet Pro 8610
- HP Officejet Pro 8615
- HP Officejet Pro 8620
- HP Officejet Pro 8625
- HP Officejet Pro 8630
Users who hasn't installed the printer firmware are able to block the HP auto updates in printer settings as described here. Overall it's a nasty approach made by HP – or what do you think?
