Google introduces Pixel phones and more devices

Yesterday Google has announced several new products at a press event. Two new Pixel smartphones, a VR head set, Google Home smart speakers, 4K Chromecast Ultra and Google WiFi. Here is a short overview.

Google Pixel and Pixel XL Smartphones

Google has presented two high end smartphones named Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL It’s the end of the Nexus devices and also the OEMs producing these devices are no more named – the devices are introduced as “developed by Google”.

Google mentioned on the presentation, that the Pixels are the first smartphones with integrated Google Assistant. Details about both devices may be found at this Google page.

  • Pixel: 5 inch  FHD-AMOLED-Display, Metal Unibody, Snapdragon 821 CPU, 4 GByte RAM, 32 or 128 GByte Storage (no SD card slot), 13,2 MPixel back camera, 8 MPixel front camera, LTE support, finger print sensor, USB-C connector, 3,5 mm audio jack, 2.770 mAh battery, Android 7.1, Price: 32 GByte $649, 128 GByte $749.
  • Pixel XL: 5,5 inch  QHD-AMOLED-Display, Metal Unibody, Snapdragon 821 CPU, 4 GByte RAM, 32 or 128 GByte storage (no SD card slot), 13,2 MPixel back camera, 8 MPixel front camera, LTE support, finger print sensor, USB-C connector, 3,5 mm audio jack, 2.770 mAh battery, Android 7.1, Price: 32 GByte $769, 128 GByte $869.

Both Pixel smartphones will be shipped after October 20, 2016 with Android 7.1 and has 2 years support.

Google Home comptetes with Amazon’s Echo speaker. It’s an intelligent speaker with a microphone and voice control. The price is $129 and it will go on sale immediately.

Google Wifi and 4K Chromecast

Google Wifi is a WiFi home router that replaces your router for seamless coverage throughout your home. An app is used to configure the device. The device will be shipped for $129 from December 2016. Google has also introduced 4K-Chromecast Ultra-Modell, that will be shipped for $69 – a few details may be found within this Arstechnica article.

VR headset Daydream View

The new Daydream View VR headset replaces Google Cardboard and is available at $79. The VR headset needs a “supported” smartphone – currently only Google Pixel and Pixel XL are available.
