Windows 10: Updates KB4073291, KB4075199, KB4075200

[German]Microsoft released further updates (KB4073291, KB4075199, KB4075200, KB4057375, KB4023057) for various Windows 10 builds on January 18, 2018. Also included is a first patch for 32-bit Windows 10 Fall Creators update systems addressing Spectre/Meltdown.

Updates KB4073290, KB4057144 and KB4057142 from January 17,/18, 2018 are introduced within my blog post Windows 10: Updates KB4073290, KB4057144 and KB4057142. These updates are fixing boot issues on AMD CPUs. Update KB4073290 is only available for 64 bit Windows 10 Version 1709 and changes the OS build to 16299.194.

Update KB4073291 for Windows 10 Version 1709

Update KB4073291 from January 18, 2018 raises the OS build to 16299.201 and has a very short description. This update provides additional protection for the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows 10 1709 (Fall Creators Update) for the KB4056892 update from January 3,2018, which had raised the OS Build to 16299.192 for 64-bit versions. However, the list of known problems is extremely .

  • Windows Update history list the update with install error 0x800707070643 and the message that it could not be installed. However, this is a faulty message even though the update has been installed. The bug has been going on for weeks with further updates. Microsoft is working on a solution and will provide an update in an upcoming version..
  • When calling CoInitializeSecurity, the call will fail if passing RPC_C_IMP_LEVEL_NONE under certain conditions. When calling CoInitializeSecurity, the call may fail when passing RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_NONE as the authentication level. The error returned on failure is STATUS_BAD_IMPERSONATION_LEVEL. Change the authentication level parameter to RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_CALL. Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
  • Because of compatibility issues with some versions of antivirus software, this update causes stop errors or abrupt reboots. Contact your antivirus (AV) vendor and follow their guidance.

Update KB4075199 for Windows 10 Version 1507

Update KB4075199 released on January 18, 2018 applies to Windows 10 Enterprise, which was released as an RTM version in July 2015. The sole purpose of this update is to fix the boot problems that users have on AMD systems. This update raises the OS Build to 10240.17741. The package is also available in Microsoft Update Catalog.

The list of known bugs includes the problem with calling CoInitializeSecurity described above in Update KB4073291. In addition, the update will only be installed if the installed antivirus solution stets within the Windows registry the key:

and add the DWORD-Wert cadca5fe-87d3-4b96-b7fb-a231484277cc = 0.

Microsoft will also roll out an update directly to the Windows Update Client to improve the reliability of Windows Update. It is only available for devices that do not have the latest updates installed.

Update KB4075200 for Windows 10 Version 1511

Update KB4075200, released on January 18, 2018 applies to Windows 10 version 1511, which was released in November 2015. The update is only available for Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education. It cannot be installed on Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Home and is not offered – so it is not available for home users (because this version of Windows 10 has been dropped from support for this group). 

The sole purpose of this update is to fix the boot problems that users have on AMD systems. This update raises the OS Build to 10586.1358. The package is also available in the Microsoft Update Catalog. The same known bugs apply as for update KB4075199 (see above).

Reliability update KB4023057 for Windows 10

Microsoft has released reliability update KB4023057 (Update to Windows 10 Versions 1507, 1511, 1607, and 1703 for update reliability: January 18, 2018). This update contains files and resources for troubleshooting issues that affect the update processes in Windows 10. These enhancements ensure that quality updates are installed smoothly to improve the reliability and security of Windows 10. Update is only available on certain machines via Windows Update (see my blog post Windows 10: Update KB4023057).

Dynamic Update KB4057375 for Windows 10 V1709

Furthermore, dynamic Update KB4057375 for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709) has been released. There is no KB article from Microsoft. You can read about what Dynamic Updates are within my blog post Windows 10: What are dynamic updates?).
