If you search the Internet for the error code, there are many hits. In this German MS Answers forum thread a user reports that the error is displayed during the update installation.

Windows 10 Update Error E06D7363

Hello Community,

When I try to update from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro, everything goes fine until the first reboot. Then I land on the Win7 GUI again and get the message that the update fails with error code E06D7363. Has someone perhaps already had that and solved it somehow?

A short search on the internet made me realize, however, that this error code is very generic and can have many causes. Are there any further hints that might indicate the actual cause?

At this time a problem with malware bytes was known (see also here and here), which is wrote within the forum thread. In this MS Answers forum thread a user fails with the error code when upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. A new installation via an installation medium is suggested there. Recently I stumbled upon another German MS answers forum thread, where a user reports that the error occurred when updating his Windows 10 install to Windows 10 V1803.

The picture above shows the error message under Windows 10 on the Windows Update page. Usually, Windows suggests checking for corrupted files (see my blog post Check and repair Windows system files and component store), but that doesn't usually help.

Within this MS answers forum thread the error was dropped from a program. And this web site reports that the error occurs in application programs when an attempt is made to copy or move an open or locked file.

What stands error 0xE06D7363 for?

If you search for the error code, you won't find it in the common lists of Windows error codes. When I first came across the problem in this German MS Answers forum thread, I did some research. There is Microsoft's KB article 185294 on this bug from 2005, so I posted the following answer in the forum thread:

There isn't much information in detail about the error code 0xe06d7363 on the internet – the usual sling shots like sfc and dism for check/repair have already been executed.

If my tools are not lying, the partial error code 0x6d could be FACILITY_VISUALCPP, which could be an indication of problems with the Visual C++ runtime environments. The MS KB article here gives the hint that the error code is generated directly by the Visual C++ compiler and that it is a generic error. Now this can mean anything.

My advice was, to look in the direction of Visual C++ Redistributables. The user should check, it a repair of VC++ redistributable helps (see also The problem with C++ Redists & 3rd Party security patches – III). If that didn't help: Backup important data, create a Windows 10 V1803 installation disc using Media Creation Tool. Then boot from this disc and reinstall Windows 10. Maybe it helps.
