After Microsoft released several security updates for Windows on April 9, 2019, users are facing issues. The security updates led to installation errors, and a short time later it was clear that this was due to installed security solutions.

  • Diverse Sophos Schutzlösungen,
  • Antivirus-Software von Avast
  • und Antivirus-Lösungen von Avira

were responsible for the installation problems. I had published the article Windows patchday issues–one week later (April 17, 2019). Microsoft has also added some hints in the KB articles of the updates. In the meantime, the antivirus manufacturers have published support articles or updates to help those affected.

Mc Afee users also affected

Now it is clear that Mc Afee users are also affected by the April 2019 update problem. Meanwhile, Microsoft has revised the article on Update KB4493472 for the Monthly Rollup for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 several times and added the Known Issues entries. The Known Issues section now reads:

Microsoft and McAfee have identified an issue on devices with McAfee Endpoint Security (ENS) Threat Prevention 10.x or McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention (Host IPS) 8.0 installed. It may cause the system to have slow startup or become unresponsive at restart after installing this update.

Microsoft is currently investigating this issue with McAfee. For instructions for McAfee customers, see the following McAfee support articles:

By the way, this entry is missing in Security-only Update KB4493448 for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 – the systems may not be affected. Anyone using Mc Afee and affected? (via)
