Bug in Adobe Lightroom mobile 5.4.0 for iOS

If you are a photographer on the road with Adobe Lightroom and use the software as an app on the iPhone, you should be careful at the moment. Because a faulty update of the iOS app can result in all photos stored on the iPhone as well as the settings being deleted. A user has described this in the Apple forum. According to this Apple support document some customers who upgraded to Lightroom 5.4.0 on iPhone and iPad may have missing photos and/or presets.

  • This affected customers using Lightroom mobile without a subscription to the Adobe cloud.
  • This also affected Lightroom cloud customers with photos and presets that had not yet been synchronized to the Adobe cloud.

Adobe say,  that no assets were lost or compromised in the Lightroom cloud. In the cloud, what is stored is considered preserved. Also Lightroom Mobile on Android, Lightroom Desktop on MacOS and Windows, and Lightroom Classic are not affected.

Possibly no recovery

Apple writes: We know that some customers have photos and presets that are unrecoverable. We know how frustrating and disturbing this will be for those affected, and we sincerely apologize.

However, there is one small hope, as Apple points out: Some customers affected by this issue may be able to use iPhone and iPad backups to restore photos and presets. If you are affected by this issue, please read the information in our forum.

Updated version 5.4.1 for iOS available

Now a new version of Lightroom mobile (5.4.1) for iOS and iPadOS has been released that prevents this issue from affecting other customers. However, installing version 5.4.1 will not restore missing photos or preferences for customers affected by the issue introduced in 5.4.0.
