Windows 10 20H2 ready for broad deployment

Windows[German]After recently removing the last upgrade blockers (see the blog post Windows 10 V2004/20H2: All upgrade blocks removed (May 2021)), Microsoft is now releasing the brakes regarding the distribution of this feature update. The operating system upgrade is now to be offered to all users.

The rollout of a new Windows 10 version always takes place in stages with an initially slowed distribution. This is then gradually expanded to more and more machines. A good half year after the first release, the feature update is then released for general use.

Windows 10 version 20H2, referred to as the October 2020 Update, was released last October, after all. According to the latest entry in the Windows 10 20H2 status area, Microsoft set the status for Windows 10 version 20H2 to "broad deployment" in the Semi-Annual Channel on May 18, 2021. That means all Windows 10 machines that have not had feature updates blocked or deferred will be offered this upgrade.

Currently, only an audio issue is pending as a problem with Microsoft (see Windows 10 Version 2004/20H2: Audio issue "high-pitched noise" after Update). However, this was caused by one of the latest updates and also affects Windows 10 2004 as well as Windows 10 21H1 released this week (see Windows 10 May 2021 Update (21H1) released (May 18, 2021)).

Thanks for the following information about the rollout of new Windows 10 feature updates: –

"The rollout of a new Windows 10 version always takes place in stages with an initially slowed distribution. This is then gradually expanded to more and more machines. A good half year after the first release, the feature update is then released for general use."

I was not specifically aware of this and the knowledge will be helpful in managing the future of older hardware in particular.
