Some Background

The Lapsus$ group has gained some media attention in recent weeks with a series of attacks on technology companies, including Microsoft Corp. and Nvidia Corp. I reported on the hacks of the Lapsus$ group several times – see links at the end of the article.

Four security researchers investigated a series of attacks by the Lapsus$ hacker group on behalf of the companies attacked. The cyber researchers used forensic evidence from the hacks as well as publicly available information to find and name the authors or members of the Lapsus$ group. I had reported on this in the blog post Lapsus$ hacker group debunked? Teenager from Britain and Brazil suspected?

Then there was a brief arrest in the UK of seven teenagers allegedly linked to the activities of the Lapsus$ group. Again, I had reported on the case in the blog post 7 teenagers arrested in connection with the LAPSUS$ hacks. However, since the young people were released again, the question remained open what happens next.
