Thunderbird 102.3.0 released

[German]The developers of Thunderbird have released another update to the email client to version 102.3.0 as of September 20, 2022 (thanks to the reader for pointing this out). It's a bug-fix update, which is supposed to fix a number of issues. Because somehow, the 102 development thread of Thunderbird is a disaster (see Thunderbird 102er: The problem bear).

Thunderbird 102.3.0

According to the Thunderbird release notes, the following changes have been made in this version:

  • Thunderbird no longer attempts to import account passwords when imported from another Thunderbird profile, to prevent profile corruption and permanent data loss
  • The Devtools performance profile now uses Thunderbird presets instead of Web Developer presets

In addition, there are fixes to the following bugs that are listed as fixed:

  • Thunderbird startup performance improvements
  • Saving email sources and images failed
  • An error message was repeatedly displayed when the temporary storage space was full
  • When attaching OpenPGP keys without a specified size to unencrypted messages, a size of zero bytes was displayed for a short time
  • Global search input field initially contained "undefined
  • Mail filter rule "Delete from POP server" was occasionally not triggered
  • Connections to POP3 servers without UIDL support failed
  • POP accounts with the "Fetch headers only" setting downloaded complete messages if the server did not announce the TOP function
  • "File -> New -> Address Book Contact" from the Compose window did not work
  • The "Attach my vCard" option in the compose window was not available
  • Performance when matching a contact with an email address was improved
  • The address book recognized only the first two email addresses of a contact
  • Address Book search and auto-completion failed if a contact's vCard could not be parsed
  • Downloading NNTP messages for offline use failed
  • NNTP client got stuck when connecting to public inbox servers
  • Various visual and UX improvements
  • Various security fixes

This update fixes a number of issues that have been bugging users. I myself am still on the 91 Thunderbird version, as I had problems with empty mails in the 102. So one should be cautious with the update and backup the profile before.

Tip: Going back to an old Thunderbird version after updating to a newer version is rejected if the profile is updated (see also). I fell into this trap some time ago. With an updated profile (without backup) a downgrade is only possible with tricks by starting Thunderbird with the –allow-downgrade option (see also).

The system requirements for the different operating system versions (see here for more details):

  • Windows: Windows 7 or higher
  • Mac: Mac OS X 10.12 or higher
  • Linux: GTK+ 3.14 or higher

The Thunderbird download for free is available here.

One Response to Thunderbird 102.3.0 released
