Windows November 2022 updates

In November 2022, Microsoft released the following security updates for various Windows clients and servers on the 8th of the month.

These are supposed to fix various bugs and security problems in the mentioned operating system versions.

DirectX issues with Intel graphics

On the Windows Health status page of the above Windows versions, Microsoft has published the support post You might receive an error with apphelp.dll from apps using DirectX in the Known Issues section as of February 8, 2023. It says that after installing one of the above updates on Windows devices with Intel graphics drivers versions 26.20.100.7463 to 30.0.101.1190, you might receive an error with apphelp.dll.

Microsoft says this issue can occur intermittently and affects applications that use DirectX or Direct3D to render some or all of their content. The following client platforms are affected by this bug.

  • Windows 11, version 21H1 – 22H2

Workaround for the problem

To mitigate this issue, Microsoft suggests installing an Intel graphics driver with a version newer than 30.0.101.1190. It is recommended to obtain the latest version of the Intel graphics driver for the system in question from the Windows device manufacturer's support.

If the system manufacturer does not offer a newer Intel graphics driver than version 30.0.101.1190, users should check the list of drivers for Intel graphics devices. There you can find information on how to download and install the latest Intel graphics driver directly from Intel. Microsoft is working on a solution and plans to roll it out with one of the upcoming updates.
