[German]Brief information for users of Eufy cameras. A reader recently pointed out to me that there are probably problems with their cameras and the Eufy app. An app update from February 2025 seems to have caused problems for many users. Version 4.0, on the other hand, seems to work without any problems. Not the first problem with Eufy cameras.
A reader's report of problems
Blog reader Michael contacted me by email at the end of March 2025 and reported that "things have not been going so well at Eufy since the last app update at the end of February 2025". Their "security solution" is now more of an "insecure solution": notifications from the security cameras are being delivered late. The reader writes that the connection with cameras only works sporadically and is far from real-time. There is also talk of extremely high energy consumption by the devices.
The app's ratings in terms of battery consumption in the German Google Play Store are not that great. The 1-star ratings predominate and you can almost watch the rating plummet, the reader notes. There are answers from the manufacturer or distributor. The reader writes that Eufy and Anker are fobbing users off with the same old text modules, with no solution in sight.
Reviews in the Eufy forum
Users are also complaining about problems in the Eufy forum. One user writes that the Eufy app was updated from version 4.9 to version 5.0. Since then, he has had problems with the notifications (movements are not recognized and the notification when someone rings the doorbell is delayed by around 40 seconds). Other users are also complaining about severe delays in the delivery of video camera images (2 to 20 minutes). This thread in the Eufy forum also collects user complaints about problems.
Experience of the blog reader
The blog reader confirms the above statements. He has two cameras and a video doorbell in use at home. He also has two cameras in operation at his company.
After updating to version 5.x, all of these cameras were no longer usable. The app started unbearably slowly (probably also due to the size: previously (v4.9.x) the app was approx. 240 MB in size, v5.x is now a whopping 607 MB. Attempts to establish a connection to the devices took 3-10 attempts. Notifications from the devices did not arrive at all, writes the user.
The user also criticizes the fact that before updating to version 5.x of the app, users are forced to accept changed terms of use. Otherwise, the app would not even start.
As a downgrade is not possible, the reader had to uninstall the app. He then downloaded the 4.9 app version from APKMIRROR and installed it. Now everything is working as it should, writes the reader.
