WSUS sync should work again – July 2025 issue fixed

Update[German]Brief information for administrators in corporate environments who use Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) to distribute updates. The service has been unable to synchronize with Microsoft endpoints since 9 July 2025. This problem should be fixed, Microsoft has fixed something on the server side.

The WSUS sync problem

On 9 July 2025, there were an increasing number of reports from readers around the July Patchday (8 July 2025) that the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) had massive problems and was unable to synchronize with the Microsoft servers. This meant that it was not possible to distribute the July 2025 updates in corporate environments via WSUS.

The problem occurred worldwide and I had taken up the issue in the blog post WSUS has synchronization problems (July 9, 2025). Microsoft had confirmed this and announced that they were working on a fix.

Sync problem fixed?

Now there is initial feedback in the comments to the German blog post WSUS hat Synchronisationsprobleme (9. Juli 2025) and the English blog post linked above, that the WSUS has been synchronizing again since the early morning of July 10, 2025 (CET). In this comment, a reader writes that a Windows Release Health email says the following:

"Resolution: The issue has been addressed through a service-side repair activity and should be resolved. WSUS sync and update activities are expected to proceed as usual at this time."

So nothing needs to be done, as Microsoft has carried out the relevant actions on its side.

One Response to WSUS sync should work again – July 2025 issue fixed

While the WSUS does sync now, I have found that some of my servers will not download updates from the WSUS anymore. Most of them are 2016 servers, but I do have a couple 2019 that no longer download the updates from the WSUS. The last reported date is also before the issue as well.
