Open Source AppLocker Policy Generator

Windows[German]Another small finding from the Internet that may be helpful for administrators who work with AppLocker in corporate environments to set application restrictions. The AppLocker Policy Generator promises to support system administrators and security experts in creating and managing AppLocker policies.

I became aware of the AppLocker Policy Generator website via the following tweet from Thorsten E.

AppLocker Policy Generator

Developed to assist system administrators and security professionals in creating and managing AppLocker policies, AppLockerGen simplifies the creation of AppLocker XML policies. It provides a user-friendly interface for effectively creating, merging, and managing rules. Key features of AppLockerGen include:

  • Policy creation: Easily define rules for applications, scripts, and installers to increase security. On this page, you can set rules for paths and scripts and choose whether they should be set to "Check" or "Block" mode.
  • Merging policies: Combine multiple AppLocker policies into a comprehensive set of rules. This tool allows you to combine multiple AppLocker policies into a single policy file.
  • Pre-built policies: Ensure that AppLocker policies are correctly formatted and error-free before deployment. With this application, administrators can download pre-built policies to block common applications. The policies can also be customized to suit your own needs.
  • Export and import: Import existing policies for editing and export policies for deployment in the enterprise. You can upload an AppLocker policy XML file or paste AppLocker policy XML for modification.

There is also an AppLocker Inspector to audit policies and detect misconfigurations. And there is AppLocker Atomic Testing with a list of AppLocker bypass options.

I have no idea how useful this tool is – details and a YouTube video can be found on this website. Information about AppLocker can be found on this Microsoft page. AppLockerGen is an open source project, and the developers welcome contributions and feedback from the community to further improve the tool.
