HP EliteBook 660 G11: Why was BIOS v. 1.08.01 pulled?

[German]A blog reader contacted me last week to ask whether BIOS version 1.08.01 for the HP EliteBook 660 G11 had been withdrawn. The revocation of the BIOS version has been confirmed by third parties. However, there is no information about what might have happened (only speculation that Samsung memory caused blue screens).

German Blog-Leser André M. had initially contacted me by email on March 3, 2026, writing that he had several HP EliteBook 660 G11s in use at his company. He keeps the devices up to date with the latest BIOS via the HP Client Management Script Library.

HP-BIOS 01.07.04

At the end of February 2026), HP offered BIOS version 1.08.01 for the HP EliteBook 660 G11. But at the start of the week (March 2, 2026), the reader was quite surprised. Because now the old BIOS version 1.07.04 was supposedly the current version. I took a quick look and found the above mentioned BIOS version from October 29, 2025, offered on the HP website for the device in question.

The reader also wrote, despite an intensive search, he had been unable to find any information as to why version 1.08.01 had been withdrawn. However, this immediately brought back bad memories for him, and he mentioned the old case of a broken BIOS (see HP EliteBook 660 G11 BIOS Version 1.08.01 revoked?).

There is rumor, that this BIOS version has been revoked by HP because BIOS version 1.08.01 caused Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) problems in certain configurations (especially with Samsung memory). But I could not find a clear source for that. More details may read within my German blog post – use the site's build in translator to read the text in your language.
