Transport Layer Security (TLS) is an encryption protocol for secure data transmission on the Internet. TLS consists of the two main components TLS Handshake (for secure key exchange) and TLS Record (for secure data transmission). The latest version TLS 1.3 uses only the Diffie-Hellman key exchange protocol (DHE or ECDHE) for security reasons. But which TLS versions are actually supported by the various Windows clients and servers?
I became aware of this article from Microsoft the other day via the following tweet. Windows Server 2022 already uses TLS 1.3 for Internet communication by default. A table in the linked article shows which Windows versions (client and server) support which TLS version.
