Windows 10: Issues with daylight saving time switch in 2021?

[German]Quick question: Has Windows 10 correctly changed the night to European summer time for you? And most importantly, does the time remain correct? I have received several hints of problems.

I had already blogged about issues a year ago in the blog post Windows 10: Issues with daylight savings time switch in 2020. The error pattern described by blog reader Dekre:

today we are switching to daylight savings time (CEST)

My PC clock was displayed correctly at startup today at 07:25 CEST. One hour later it jumped back again. The automatic time synchronization then reports errors.

Is it the same with others? Win10 pro. I have now switched to manual time setting without synchronization.

The effect was confirmed by other readers. I myself noticed today on Windows 7 that the time had jumped forward by 2 hours right away (instead of 8:30, which would have been correct, or 7:30, which I would have understood since nothing had been changed over, the computer showed 9:30). A manual time sync then set the time correctly – and it has remained so far.

Reader feedback in 2021

In the blog post Windows 10: Issues with daylight savings time switch in 2020, two comments came in on Sunday:

Today, the scenario where Windows gets it right at first and fails hours later happened on my machine. I'm on Version 20H2. No dual-boot or anything.

And a second reader says in this comment: Same here on 2004. Manual resync fixed it.

Feedback from a German reader

Blog reader Patrick contacted me in parallel by e-mail and reported the following:

Hi Günter,

on several computers with Windows 10 20H2, I noticed this morning after switching on, that after starting with 'Daylight Saving Time', CET/CET was displayed again.

After the manual time synchronization via the control panel, the daylight saving time (CEST) was then displayed again – and so far everything is working.

The affected systems are set to synchronize automatically with 'rime.windows.com' and also to switch between CET and CEST.

Whether it's a local problem only here or affects multiple users, I can't tell here. If you get any more hints about it, maybe the information about it will help you.

I had shared the German edition of this post in advance on Facebook for discussion. The responses are mixed – for some readers it worked fine – for others nothing changed over or there were problems. Funny thing is that one people report that some of their system converted without problems, but others showed errors. On Twitter there is this hint from Karl – in the Feedback Hub there are several German language posts regarding this.

Question: Has anyone else experienced problems with the automatic daylight saving time changeover under Windows? Is pretty dumb for automatically running systems that log timestamps (process control and SCADA systems or systems with lab areas, etc.).

Yes me too. Some computers have changed the time well and others have not. I do not understand the cause. They all have the same version of Windows 10 and were up to date. It must be that they connect to the time server to synchronize the time and it could be down or something similar.

Never had that problem with Windows XP. Or my PowerBook back in Apple's times.

Windows 8.1 switches seamlessly either. It also tells me that time has adjusted due to summer/winter season kicking in.

However, this issue is s a recurrent phenomenon with Windows 10 – and I do observe it on both personal PC and work machine all the time (on the latter: I am getting kind reminders from our IT Department every six months that it's worth checking and possibly adjusting time as/if needed…!). I daresay time has never moved properly and on its own on these two devices as far as I can tell.

    Hi

I am in England, and have just noticed that my windows 10 PC is displaying the time wrongly ie an hour ahead of where it should be.
Actually I have had this error several times before in previous years. Microsoft seem incapable of a rather simple bit of coding logic
