Windows 10 Pro: Issues after installing updates from Oct. 2021

Windows[German]I'm posting a reader's observation about Windows 10 here for information and discussion on the blog. The October 2021 security updates have caused one of my German blog readers to notice that certain features in Windows 10 no longer works.

German blog reader Rudolf H. contacted me a few days ago with his observations and wrote the following:

I don't know if it's just me. Host and two vmware workstation [running Windows 10] Pro Guests. After the last update, 'compare' in autoruns stopped working. The compare always did not find any differences! Now there is an update [for the Sysinternals tool Autoruns] that fixes this.

But there is another problem on Windows 10 Pro (64 bit). The two systems with Windows and all installed software are up to date. But there are the following oddities:

  • Process Explorer finds that the processes memory compression and registry don't work,
  • Process hacker drops error 0x50 for both of his systems.
  • Signatures are partly allegedly not present

The installed Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) reports other errors. The blog reader has already tried a run with sfc /scannow to repair the system without success. There is nothing mentioned about this issues yet on the internet. Therefore the question is: Did someone else has observed something similar?

My first suspicion: It's also possible that Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) is causing these issues. But a German reader confimed some issues within a comment to my blog post. And he is using only Windows Defender to protect his test systems, where just a few other software packages are installed.
