Intel Arc and Iris Xe graphics driver 31.0.101.4972 fixes Office problems (Nov. 2023)

Windows[German]Another small addendum from this week, which I'll pull out separately. Intel has released an update of its Intel Arc and Iris Xe graphics drivers to version 31.0.101.4972. This update is supposed to fix a number of problems (e.g. with Starfield (DX12). It is not documented that this graphics driver update under Windows 11 also fixes a problem in Microsoft Office which prevents Office documents from being loaded.

Office attachments cannot be opened from Outlook

Now we come to a very crude problem. Readers had contacted me with the problem that Microsoft Office document files (Word, Excel) attached to emails from Microsoft Outlook 365 could no longer be opened under Windows 11. The document files in question were simply broken on the Windows 11 client in question.

I reported this problem in the blog post Office 365: Mail attachments from Outlook cannot be opened in Word/Excel (Nov. 2023),  and I was amazed when a reader wrote that updating the Intel graphics driver to version 31.0.101.4972 fixed this Office problem. In the meantime, more readers have come forward to confirm this fix.
