[German]At the end of August 2025, I reported on reader reports of Remote Desktop Server freezes that could be traced back to Trend Micro security software. A blog reader informed me that Trend Micro version 6.7.4065/14.3.1342 should eliminate these freezes. Has anyone tested the update and can confirm this?
Remote Desktop Server Freeze Problem
German blog reader Robert H. informed me in August 2025 about a problem (thanks for that) he was experiencing with various customers using Windows Server (versions 2019, 2022, and 2025). For unexplained reasons, the customers' Windows Server instances would freeze, sometimes at the same time (around 2 p.m. CET) on the same day. This manifests itself in the fact that all active sessions on the server remain active. However, the user sees a black background of the RDP connection.
Logging in to the Windows Server via Remote Desktop is no longer possible. Only restarting the Windows Server resolves the issue. After that, normal work is possible again – until the next freeze. The problem: At the time of the freeze, no events are logged in the logs.
The reader was able to identify the cause as Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security (WFBS) installed on all affected servers. I addressed this issue at the end of August 2025 in the blog post Windows: Freezes on Remote Desktop Server due to Trend Micro Subsequently, other administrators contacted me, confirming the error pattern.
Does Trend Micro version 6.7.4065/14.3.1342 fix the freezes?
German blog reader Mario H. contacted me by email on September 30, 2025, regarding the above post because he had an addition (thanks for that). Mario opened a support case with Trend Micro about the problem and received a response. Trend Micro support informed the reader on September 29, 2025, that Trend Micro Worry Free Business version 6.7.4065/14.3.1342 had been rolled out using an activation code he provided.
The reader was able to verify this; the version had been updated to the mentioned version since the night of September 28, 2025. German support then contacted the reader by phone and confirmed that this version should fix the issue with the freezing servers.
I had given the reader access to the article in advance, and he provided the following feedback: There's more news on this. Patching to the version mentioned didn't resolve the issue. But the additional steps shown in the screenshot below, performed by TM Support, seem to be working, at least so far—for two days.
Has anyone of our readers who was still affected by the freezes received the update and can confirm that the problem has been resolved with the update and the steps above?
