Windows 10/11: RemovableStorageDevice Blocking GPO is broken

Windows[German]A German blog reader has informed me that the RemovableStorageDevice blocking GPI is broken in Windows 10 and 11 . USB device control via GPO simply no longer works since the April 2025 patchday. This has been confirmed by Microsoft, a fix is in the works. I'll post the information here in the blog in case other administrators stumble across the issue.

Microsoft blocks virus scanners from kernel access – just a marketing gag?

Windows[German]At the end of June 2025, there were reports (at least that's how I interpreted them) that virus scanners would "soon" no longer be allowed to use the Windows kernel mode. According to Microsoft, the CrowdStrike case, which paralyzed millions of Windows systems, was the final warning to take this step. The question now is whether we are experiencing a paradigm shift or whether it is a deceptive package and what is behind it all.

Stop - Pixabay[German]Warning to IT service providers and blog readers who ever buy a used Windows notebook, tablet or desktop PC system on eBay or other shops. A reader pointed out to me a couple days ago, that he had ordered refurbished Panasonic Toughpads FZ-G1(F) from Priceholes-com via eBay, but then discovered that they were infected with malware. He found the Chinese worm Synaptics.exe on the systems.

Windows 11 24H2: June 2025 Preview Update KB5060829 triggers Firewall Events

Windows[German]Microsoft released the preview update KB5060829 for Windows 11 24H2 on June 26, 2025. The update corrects errors, but causes trouble. For example, administrators suddenly find entries triggered by the Windows Firewall for Advanced Security in the Windows Event Viewer. Microsoft now states that these entries can be ignored.

Windows 11 24H2 June 2025 update issues: KB5060842 with wrong timestamp and Print to PDF

Windows[German]The June 2025 update KB5060842 for Windows 10 24H2 was provided with an wrong timestamp (20.6.) in the meta files. This resulted in the update being delayed for installation on managed systems with update delay policies. The problem also occurs with Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11 23H2. Microsoft has now confirmed this and will not fix anything, it's up to administrators to fix things. In addition, the "Print to PDF" issue I mentioned has also been confirmed as a problem.
