[German]After a shit storm HP has released a new firmware update for its Office Jet printer, that re-enables third party refill ink cartriges.

A few days ago I published the article HP printer firmware disables refill ink cartridges. Some users of HP ink jet printers are facing problems with third party refill ink cartridges after September 13, 2016. This is a result of a firmware update for several HP printers, rolled out in March 2016. Support for third party refill ink cartridges from September 2016 onward on has been axed on the following printers so far:
- HP Officejet Pro 8610
- HP Officejet Pro 8615
- HP Officejet Pro 8620
- HP Officejet Pro 8625
- HP Officejet Pro 8630
In an article HP apologizes, new firmware update for printers soon the company announced a revised firmware update, that shall remove the ink cartrige DRM. Now it seems, that HP has released the new firmware for some Office Jet printers. HP's support internet page shows the following announcement:

For non-hp original ink users an optional firmware update to remove dynamic security is now available for select Officejet, Officejet Pro, Officejet ProX printers. Go to http://support.hp.com/drivers and enter your printer model number to find and download the firmware update.
Some German users reporting, that after downloading and installing the new printer firmware, third party ink cartridges are supported again.

glad to find this article. I have a HP ENVY 5530 which I really like, but can no longer use because of the HP "defective" ink cartridge message. Did find a way around it by selecting print, then turning printer off and back on. Will then print the document after after printing complete the "defective" cartridge message returns.
Can hopefully now determine if my printer is one that can have that message deleted. If not, will just purchase another printer which will NOT be an HP.
HP is just like MICROSOFT cornering the market with their supposed to be brilliant browser. if it works leave it alone and keep the customer happy instead having to purchase their almighty expensive garbage. I am trying to get my HP ENVY 7640 printer to accept different ink cartridge but impossible to do so at this time. Thinking about going with EPSON or another brand!
I was able to connect to my HP 5258 via internet and disable cartridge protection but it doesn't seem to have worked. Two previous refilled cartridges still (as before) do not work. I bought the cheapest authentic black 63 cartridge I could find, and it worked. I like HP printers and wondered which models are too old and therefore exempt from cartridge protection? I have a 4200 officejet all-in-one that must be over 15 years old and never had a problem. Although I have tried many suggested solutions (the closest seemed to be over the internet) none have worked. So far I've been outsmarted by HP.
Can't get the %3@8*# printer going after I tried a 3rd party cartridge. I got HP's carts instead, still can't the damn thing going. I'm now forced to buy another much more expensive printer that won't have the problem. Gonna get an Epson EcoTank. No more cartridges, it has large capacity bottles which last longer than HP or other mfgrs carts. The refill is $46 in Costco, saving lots of $$$ in the long run. As a price comparison, HP Color/black ink costs $80! Saving up now to buy Epson. It costs over $300, and my current HP cost me $80 when I got it) It might take me 3-4 months to buy one. Counting the days. Now I have to run to the library to print at 20 cents a page. Eff HP!!! 🖕🖕🖕
