[German]It appears that two Surface models (Surface Pro 7 and Surface Laptop 3) are having problems upgrading to Windows 10 May 2020 Update (2004 version). The new Windows 10 is not compatible with these devices. Addenum: Also Surface Book 3 is affected.

In general, it's amazing for me that Microsoft lists 11 errors on the Windows 10 status page. Mostly it's about drivers that are not compatible with the new Windows 10 version 2004. In my eyes very unpleasant, because it is known for quite some time that the Windows 10 May 2020 update is coming. Since December 2019, nothing has been developed on the 20H1 development branch, there were only bug fixes.
Upgrade-Blocker for Surface Pro X/Laptop 3
On Windows 10 status page issues after upgrading a Microsoft Surface Pro 7 or a Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 are mentioned. Users of these devices cannot upgrade to Windows 10 version 2004. I have come across this Microsoft Answers post:

The user only gets the message that no upgrade to Windows 10 version 2004 is possible. The reason is mentioned in the Microsoft Answers forum thread and also on the Windows 10 status page:
Errors or unexpected restarts for some devices using Always On, Always Connected
Some devices using the Always On, Always Connected feature might have compatibility issues with Windows 10, version 2004 (the Windows 10 May 2020 Update). Affected devices will have more than one Always On, Always Connected capable network adapter, such as the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 and Microsoft Surface Laptop 3, and might receive errors or unexpected shutdown or restart.
In brief: There are compatibility issues with Always On, Always Connected in conjunction with Windows 10 version 2004. Affected devices have more than one Always On, Always Connected-enabled network adapter, such as Microsoft Surface Pro 7 and Microsoft Surface Laptop 3. After you upgrade to Windows 10 May 2020 Update, you may experience errors or unexpected shutdowns or restarts.
Microsoft has therefore set an upgrade blocker to Windows 10 version 2004 for affected devices, which may affect not only Microsoft Surface Pro 7 and Microsoft Surface Laptop 3, but also other devices whose firmware and drivers support this feature. Microsoft is currently working on a solution and hopes to be able to provide this by mid-June 2020. Purchased Surface Pro 7 i5 8 gig, 128 1 1/2 weeks ago. It worked well with reasoalbly legible type for about an hour. Then it froze stating that crucial updates were required. After that, blurry faint text, odd scaling in microsoft word, excel, edge, chrome. Also eye strain. lookls like faint blury light gray type on a lighter gray mottled moving background.
Reset. The blur & scaling issues are not gone. I read that this has been an issue with surface since surface 3. Do you know how to fix this issue or do you know if the new windows 10 upgrade will fix it? (Just now, I didn't see your check box as I was trying to post.)

Is the laptop 3 having the same issue? I love the design of th suface pro 7 but I can't be productive if I struggle to read on it.
I don't know, how to fix the blur thing. I got a German comment from a SP 4 user to an article, dealing with a long time error, that MS hasn't fixed properly. The guy told me, that he installed Linux on that SP4 – and since then the machine runs flawless. I haven't addressed that within a blog post – but maybe it's also worth to try it with your machine ;-).
Ok, send your machine back to Microsoft and ask for a full refund. MS can't do hardware in a proper way – imho.
same for my surface laptop 2 (currently on w10 1909): w10 2004 is still unavailable.
i tried manually installing: after long download & preparation activities, the installer finally told me my device was not yet ready – bummer!
