[German]A quick question for the blog readers who administer Zebra label printers. Have there been problems with the output under Windows for a few days? A blog reader who works as an IT supporter contacted me by e-mail on May 13, 2025 and reported problems under the subject "Microsoft May updates and Zebra label printers".

The blog reader states that since last week he has been experiencing considerable problems at a customer with a good 30 Zebra label printers. The devices are almost exclusively Zebra ZD410 label printers.

Print jobs are not sent to label printers
The reader writes that he has "a series of problems with prints not coming out of the label printers". The print jobs enter the Windows printer queue. But nothing is printed.
Printer queue window flickers when called up
If the reader then looks at the queue of the label printer, the display flickers "like crazy". In the status bar of the printer queue window, the number of waiting print jobs can still be seen in the flickering. Restarting the print queue solves the problem in 90% of cases and all waiting print jobs are then printed on the label printer.
Windows 10 and Windows 11 affected
Clients with both Windows 10 and Windows 11 are affected. Other installed printers (laser) do not have this problem and print regularly. In one case, it was even the case that a print to the label printer displayed the print in the printer's status window for a tenth of a second and then disappeared immediately, writes the reader. But there was no printing.

A workaround, but recurring problem
Changing the driver version for the label printer did not help. Only when the reader changed the type of driver for this label printer did the print output in the Zebra label printer work again.
The reader writes that the problem occurs on about 5 label printers every day. The reader has not yet been able to find a common cause. The problem has existed "since the middle of last week" (i.e. May 7/8, 2025). The reader cannot say whether the broken print job is related to Windows updates. It can't really be a printer driver update either, as changing the driver version for the label printer didn't help.
