Microsoft Office Updates (June 6, 2023)

[German]As of June 6, 2023 (first Tuesday of the month), Microsoft has released non-security updates for versions of Microsoft Office that are still supported. There were three updates for Office 2016, Office 2013 is out of support in April 2023, but will probably still receive a patch for Visio. Here is a brief overview of the updates.

Gigabyte firmware update for motherboards closes vulnerability (June 2023)

Update[German]Owners of a computer with a motherboard from the manufacturer Gigabyte can now update the board's firmware. The update provided by the manufacturer is supposed to eliminate a serious vulnerability. The vulnerability, which is present in about 260 motherboard models, could allow attackers to inject malware into the system.

Firefox 114.0 and 102.12.0 esr released

Mozilla[German]Mozilla's developers have released the versions 114.0 and 102.12.0 ESR of the Firefox browser on June 6, 2023. The ESR versions are maintenance updates that are supposed to fix bugs. Firefox 114 is a new development branch. In both updates, vulnerabilities are fixed. Thanks to the reader for the tip.

Google Chrome 114.0.5735.106/.110 closes 0-day

Chrome[German]Google has released updates to Google Chrome browser 114 in the stable channel for Mac, Linux and Windows as of June 5, 2023 (thanks to the reader for pointing this out). They are security updates that fix a critical vulnerability (0-day).

Exchange Online down for hours (June 5, 2023)

Stop - Pixabay[German]As of June 5, 2023, Microsoft's Exchange Online seems to have experienced a massive disruption. Administrators could no longer get into the Admin Center and Outlook could no longer be reached on the web. A user alerted me to this disruption, which began shortly before 3:00 p..m. UTS, but has been largely resolved 3 hours later. Microsoft has confirmed the problem in the meantime.

Lace Tempest/Clop ransomware gang exploits MOVEit vulnerability CVE-2023-34362

This vulnerability has been exploited by attackers for some time and security authorities are now warning about the risks of unpatched systems. Microsoft has now disclosed that the vulnerability is now the focus of the Lace Tempest hacker group, which is active for the Clop ransomware gang.

Edge 114.0.1823.37

EdgeMicrosoft has updated the Edge browser in the stable channel on June 2, 2023 to version 114.0.1823.37 (security and bug fixes). According to the release notes, the vulnerabilities from the Chromium project as well as CVE-2023-29345 and CVE-2023-33143 are closed.
