IT issues at wholesale retailer Metro group after cyber attack: Will shelves in Metro stores soon remain empty?

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]How much does the cyber attack on the IT systems of the gastronomy wholesaler Metro affect store operations? Since last Monday, October 17, 2022, the Metro Group's IT infrastructure has been in  serious troble, as far as its stores worldwide are concerned. These stores are offline from the groups central IT systems, merchandise management systems are not available, digital touchpoints are also offline. This could result in shelves in individual Metro stores no longer being able to be filled because the goods in question cannot be ordered.

Google removes malicious 16 apps with more than 20 million downloads

[German]Google has once again had to remove 16 Android apps from a Google Play Store. The reason: The apps contain a "clicker malware" that is designed to commit advertising fraud. Apparently useful apps (flashlight, QR code, photos/camera) that had been downloaded by more than 20 million users were affected.

Adobe Acrobat (Reader) DC 2022.003.20263 fixes install error "2251.Database: Transform"

[German]Adobe has released Adobe Acrobat (Reader) DC 2022.003.20263 as a hotfix on October 22, 2022. According to the telease notes , it fixes the installation error "2251.Database: Transform" that may occur during the October 11, 2022 update. I had mentioned the problem in the blog post Adobe Acrobat (Reader) DC 2022.003.20258; Installer Error 2251.Database: Transform. A reader wrote recently, that Adobe has indentified the root cause and released a fix for internal tests. That's now the relevant hotfix.

Outlook stores IMAP password DAPI-encrypted in the registry

[German]Another little hint on Sunday. Microsoft's developers store the passwords for accessing IMAP accounts for Outlook in the registry. Is indeed DAPI-encrypted, but can be decrypted in the system with an API call. This approach is also used by tools to determine the password.

Install bug: Windows Server 2019 / 2022 does not save some administrator passwords

Windows[German]Brief note to administrators who are deploying installations of Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022. A blog reader pointed out a bug to me that he noticed during setup. During installation, you can set a password for the administrator, but some password patters are is not saved.

Issues with OneDrive for Business Sync Client caused by update KB5018410 (Oct. 22, 2022)

[German]Microsoft  is currently reporting various issues with the OneDrive for Business Sync Client. These range from problems when logging off, to the synchronization of a Teams website that does not end, to the problem that the OneDrive for Business Sync Client cannot be uninstalled. The whole thing is probably related to the (problematic) Windows security update KB5018410. Microsoft is currently working on a fix.

VirtualBox 7.0.2 released

Virtualbox[German]Oracle's developers had just released VirtualBox version 7.0.0 (VirtualBox 7.0.0 with Secure Boot and virtual TPM support), and now they have already pushed an update to version 7.0.2. This version is a maintenance update for bug fixes.
