Windows 10 V1903: Known Issues – Part 2

[German]In part 1 I had described known issues that occur when upgrading to the Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903) or after this upgrade. Part 2 continues this list of descriptions.

The complete list of known Microsoft issues in Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903) is available here and refers to the OS build 18362.116, created by KB4505057, when I wrote this blog post.

Issues with Bluetooth devices

After upgrading to Windows 10 Version 1903, Bluetooth devices cannot be detected or cannot be paired. In a forum post (I didn't have a link) I read that mouse and keyboard can no longer be operated simultaneously via Bluetooth.

Microsoft has detected compatibility issues with some driver versions for Realtek and Qualcomm Bluetooth radios. Microsoft recommends contacting the OEM for new drivers. The following drivers are required:

  • Qualcomm: Bluetooth driver version greater than 10.0.1.11.
  • Realtek: Bluetooth driver version greater than 1.5.1011.0.

Microsoft is working with Realtek and Qualcomm to release new drivers for all affected systems via Windows Update.

Note: Such bugs have been common in Windows upgrades for years. Sure, it's the drivers – but without a feature update they could have been used for many years.

Status: Microsoft has set an upgrade stopper for Windows 10 Version 1903 for affected devices. The device cannot be upgraded and Microsoft does not recommend a manual upgrade.

Night light settings and more do not apply in some cases

Microsoft has identified some scenarios where gamma ramps, color profiles and night light settings may stop working.

  • Connecting to (or disconnecting from) an external monitor, dock, or projector
  • Rotating the screen
  • Updating display drivers or making other display mode changes
  • Closing full screen applications
  • Applying custom color profiles
  • Running applications that rely on custom gamma ramps

This applies to Windows 10 V1903 clients. Microsoft's recommendation: If you notice that your night light settings no longer work, try turning the night light on and off or restart your computer. Microsoft is working on a solution and will eventually release an update. Update KB4497935 addresses the night light settings issue (see Windows 10 V1903: Updates KB4497935, KB4498523, KB4502374).

Status: Microsoft does not recommend a manual upgrade.

Intel Audio displays an intcdaud.sys notification

Microsoft and Intel have identified a problem with a number of Intel display audio device drivers that can lead to higher than normal battery consumption. If you see an intcdaud.sys notification or "What needs your attention" notification when trying to upgrade to Windows 10, version 1903, you have an affected Intel Audio Display device driver installed on your computer (intcdaud.sys, versions 10.25.0.3 to 10.25.0.0.8).

In the "What requires your attention" notification, click the Back button to stay on your current version of Windows 10. (Do not click Confirm, as this will continue with the update and compatibility issues may occur.) Affected devices will automatically return to the previous working configuration.

Microsoft has decided to impose a compatibility hold on devices with this driver for Windows 10 version 1903. This applies to Windows 10 Version 1903 and Windows 10 Version 1809, by the way. The lock will only be lifted when compatible drivers are available. These should be rolled out via Windows Update. More information can be found at Intel's customer support guidance and in Microsoft's support article KB4465877.

Status: Microsoft does not recommend a manual upgrade.

Camera app cannot be started

Microsoft and Intel have identified a problem with Intel RealSense SR300 and Intel RealSense S200 cameras when using the camera app in Windows 10 version 1903. After you update to the Windows 10 May 2019 Update and start the camera application, you may receive an error message:

"Close other apps, error code: 0XA00F4243."

Microsoft's developers have introduced a protection mechanism for machines with installed Intel RealSense SR300 or Intel RealSense S200 cameras, which is offered by Windows 10, version 1903, until the solution of this problem.

Workaround: Temporarily it helps to plug the camera in and out. Alternatively, you can enable and disable the driver. Or you can restart the RealSense service. However, this only helps until the next restart.

Status: Microsoft is working on this problem and does not recommend a manual upgrade.

Intermittent loss of Wi-Fi connectivity

Some older computers may experience loss of Wi-Fi connectivity due to an outdated Qualcomm driver. An updated Wi-Fi driver should be available from your device manufacturer (OEM).

Status: To safeguard your upgrade experience, Microsoft has applied a hold on devices with this Qualcomm driver from being offered Windows 10, version 1903, until the updated driver is installed.

Workaround: Download and install an updated Wi-Fi driver from your device manufacturer (OEM).

Note: Microsoft recommend that you do not attempt to manually update using the Update now button or the Media Creation Tool until a new driver has been installed and the Windows 10, version 1903 feature update has been automatically offered to you.

No full screen mode for D3D applications and games

Some Direct3D (D3D) applications and games (such as 3DMark) may not be able to switch to full-screen mode if the orientation of the display has changed from the standard (such as a landscape display in portrait mode).

Workaround: To work around this problem, use one of the following steps:

  • Run applications in windowed mode or, if available, on a secondary non-rotated display.
  • Change compatibility settings for the applications to "Disable Full Screen Optimizations."

Microsoft is working on a solution and estimates that a solution will be available by the end of May.

Older versions of BattlEye anti-cheat software not compatible

Microsoft and BattlEye have identified a compatibility issue with some games that use older versions of the BattlEye Anti-Cheat software. If you start a game that uses an older, affected version of the BattlEye Anti-Cheat software on a device running Windows 10, version 1903, a system crash may occur.

To ensure the gaming experience, Microsoft developers have performed a compatibility check on devices with affected versions of the BattlEye software used by games installed on your PC. This will prevent Windows 10 version 1903 from being offered until the incompatible version of the BattlEye software is no longer installed on the device.

BattlEye has released an updated patch for known affected games. A list of the latest games using BattlEye can be found here. Microsoft is working with BattlEye and game partners to ensure that games are automatically updated with the latest BattlEye software. It is confirmed that the latest version of the affected games does not have this problem. To avoid upgrade compatibility issues, please ensure that you are using the latest version of your games before attempting to upgrade your operating system

What a piece of shit. Stay away from this 1903 crap OS.

  2. Andrew Joseph O'Connor says:

I have had nothing but issues since upgrading to v1903. Including the dreaded blue screen of death. This version is apparently quite unstable. MS support is very shoddy, unhelpful and will not take ownership. They prefer to deny they have put out a bad product despite all the known issues. Whatever happened to "don't fix if it ain't broke".
