Microsoft has added the entry Signing in using Windows Hello might not work after upgrade on the Windows Release Health status page of Windows 11. Microsoft says: On Windows 11 22H2, signing in with Windows Hello may not work as expected. This affects devices that have been upgraded to Windows 11 version 22H2 and use Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security. Windows Hello with facial recognition, fingerprint scanning or PIN could be affected.

It seems that this problem can only occur on devices that already have Windows Hello when they are upgraded. According to Microsoft, the bug should not occur on devices that enable Windows Hello after upgrading or installing Windows 11 version 22H2. However, Microsoft has put an upgrade stopper on Windows 11 22H2 as a precaution, blocking the feature update on the affected machines.

Those who are affected should try a password login on Windows 11 version 22H2. Microsoft fixed this issue with preview update KB5017389 , dated September 30, 2022. The upgrade lock introduced for security is expected to be lifted in mid-October 2022.  (via)
