Windows Server 2019: Out-of-Band-Update KB5039705 released (May 23, 2024)

Windows[German]Microsoft has released the out-of-band update KB5039705 for Windows Server 2019 on May 23, 2024 (i.e. late yesterday evening in Europe). This special update was necessary because the cumulative update KB5037765 released on May 14, 2024 had to be withdrawn. The update triggered the installation error 0x800f0982 when installed on non-English speaking Windows Server 2019 instances. VBScript deprecated; timeline of when it will disappear

Windows[German]Microsoft has long intended to end support for the script language VBScript in Windows. VBScript has now been declared as deprecated and Microsoft has presented also a timetable for when support will be completely removed from Windows. Now we see an end of VBScript security issues.

Microsoft Exchange Server: Keylogger steals credentials from government organizations worldwide

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Security researchers have discovered a keylogger that infects government organizations worldwide, as well as banks and other institutions via Microsoft Exchange Server. The keylogger was found after an infection on the main page of a customer's Exchange Server. The purpose of this keylogger is to steal login credentials and transfer them to a remote server. Around 30 infected systems have already been found worldwide.

Microsoft's AI PC with Copilot – some thoughts – Part 1

But with its A "Copilot+PC", Microsoft may be running into the problem of once again failing to meet demand. I recently came across an assessment by a Google developer that 99% of users do not need AI hardware. And the new development of Microsoft's "Copilot+PC" with the "Recall" function, which is supposed to be able to take screenshots and analyze everything, is already causing controversy online. It seems to be a privacy and security night mare. Elon Musk therefore recommends switching to Linux.

Outlook: Temporary fix for problems with encrypted e-mail replies

[German]Microsoft Outlook seems to have issues with encrypted emails. Reply emails that are encrypted can then no longer be read by the recipient. The problem seems to have existed since the beginning of May 2024, as I saw in a forum post. But there is a temporary solution from Microsoft for the problems with encrypted email replies.

Windows 10: What generates masses of mat-debug*.log files?

Windows[German]I'm posting another topic here on the blog that a reader asked me about at the beginning of May 2024. He notes that the Defender Core service under Windows 10 Pro was started unexpectedly just over a month ago. Since then, the reader's Temp folder has been flooded with files with the pattern mat-debug*.log. There seems to be no configuration option. During a brief internet search, however, I found that these log files have been discussed in various scenarios since 2019. I am interested to know if anyone else has made this observation.
