Windows 10: Prices for Extended Security Updates announced

Windows[English]Microsoft has already announced that there will be an ESU program (Extended Security Updates Program) for Windows 10, which will no longer be supported on 14 October 2025. Even private users will be able to purchase extended security updates for their Windows 10 installations. However, it was previously unclear how much this ESU extension, which is to be purchased on an annual basis, would cost. Now, for the first time, Microsoft has named prices for ESU licenses for support renewal, which start at 61 US dollars for the first year.

WordPress 6.5 released

WordPress 6.5 (Regina) has just been released (April 2, 2024). It is the first update of WordPress in 2024. An overview of the new features can be found here – and a summary can be found here, here and here. I have updated the blogs and have not yet discovered any problems. However, anyone updating should make a backup of the database and the old installation beforehand.

VMware plans two Cloud Foundation releases, can they do it? CISPE complaint filed

[German]There are innovations from the VMware by Broadcom front. The company plans to publish two new releases of its VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) in 2024 and 2025. These should be better tailored to "customer needs" and simplify their virtualization job. Can these plans stop VMware customers from migrating to other platforms? The statements made by Broadcom/VMware executives to The Register certainly sound like a mockery to me (customers haven't yet understood how good we are for them). The European CISPE has probably lodged something of a competition complaint with EU policy makers.

Windows 10: Which Intel CPUs are compatible?

WindowsWindows 10 is no longer as "hip" as Windows 11, but it might be interesting to have an overview of which Intel processors are compatible with Windows 10. After all, this operating system is still supported in the IoT Enterprise LTSC versions until 2031. A few days ago, Lothar posted a comment "Does my Intel® processor support Microsoft Windows® 10?" in the discussion area (thanks for that) and referred to the article "Does My Intel® Processor Support Microsoft Windows® 10?" from Intel.

Breaking news: Microsoft abandons ChatGPT in EU after AI recommendation

Stop - Pixabay[German]Microsoft's plans to roll out its AI solution Copilot worldwide with its products do not seem to be working out very well at the end of the day. Following extreme headwinds  in US congress and in the EU, I understand that Redmond has decided to postpone the rollout of Microsoft Copilot indefinitely. I did some research behind the scenes and came across a surprising reason for this decision. I was told, the recommendation was made from an AI model.

US Congress bans the use of Microsoft AI solution Copilot

Stop - Pixabay[German]Microsoft is sticking to its plans to roll out Copilot to users in all kinds of products, from Windows to Office. However, the US House of Representatives has issued a strict ban on the use of Microsoft Copilot by its employees. This is the next blow to Microsoft's AI solution, while a ban on the use of the free version of ChatGPT by employees was already enacted in June 2023. Only the paid version was permitted within certain limits. The background to this is that Microsoft's Copilot is considered a security risk because there is a danger that data from the House of Representatives will be passed on to cloud services not approved by the House of Representatives.

Outlook 365: The broken profile experience …

[German]Small blog post about Microsoft 365/Outlook, and a problem that the program suddenly wants to repair a profile. It seems to happen more frequently, as I have learned. And in some cases, the repair then fails due to insufficient free memory on the system disk where Outlook 365 is installed. Brave new software world.
