Microsoft has promised a consumer protection organization that private users in the European Economic Area (EEA) will receive the Extended Security Update (ESU) program without any requirements such as a backup app, Microsoft account, etc. and for free. In other regions ESU will come with several requirements.
[German]On the evening of September 19, 2025 (Friday), there was a ransomware attack on the service provider Collins Aerospace, which operates, among other things, check-in systems for airports. As a result, numerous flights were canceled over the weekend (in Europe – and in other parts of the world), and the IT disruptions at the service provider continue to this day. Here is a brief review of what went wrong and what is still wrong. And there has been an arrest in connection with this incident. And there is a clue as to the type of ransomware used.
[German]After installing the security updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11 (and also some Server versions) released on September 9, 2025, a problem with accessing SMBv1 network shares occurs for users. As of September 23, 2025, Microsoft has fixed this bug, at least with the preview update KB5065790 for Windows 11 23H2.
[German]Microsoft released the optional cumulative (preview) update KB5065790 for Windows 11 23H2 on September 23, 2025. For Windows 10 22H2, the preview update KB5066198 was not released until September 25, 2025. The preview update KB5065789 for Windows 11 24H2/25H2 was released on September 29, 2025. These preview updates contain fixes that can be tested and then rolled out generally as fixes in the following month. This will eliminate the SMBv1 bug.
[German]The US Secret Service has dismantled a secret network consisting of over 300 SIM servers with hundreds of SIM cards scattered across New York. These SIM servers could have overloaded the mobile phone stations in New York, where the United Nations is located, in the event of an attack.

[German]The feature update Windows 11 Version 25H2, expected in fall 2025, has not yet been officially announced by Microsoft. However, the ISO files with the installation media are apparently available on Microsoft servers. The enablement update, which allows Windows 11 24H2 to be upgraded to Windows 11 25H2, is also already "available" on the internet. There are no new features, but WMIC has been removed.
[German]Microsoft has released an out-of-band update for Windows 11 24H2 (as well as the yet-to-be-released Windows 11 25H2) effective September 22, 2025. This out-of-band update fixes a bug in App-V virtualization compatibility that affects Microsoft Office applications. Here are a few details.
[German]Brief update from the end of last week. Microsoft has announced that it has finally fixed a camera bug (existing since 2024) that caused apps to freeze. However, after installing the August 2025 Preview Update (and subsequent updates), some apps will no longer be able to display or record live TV or play content protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM).
